The 2008 ThanksGiving Turkey Run

In 2008 the ThanksGiving Turkey Run was held as a closure to the City Creek Catastrophe series. Sponsored by 3 Ring Longboards and C-Style longboards the race attracted more competition than the typical band of high school groms. Everything done for downhill skateboarding here in SLC was all considered amateur until Colorado shredders Brent 'Dubes' Dubendorff, and Kawika Omoto, and the early no-longer existing Team Sayshun showed up with Brandon Bean, Nick Breton, Jeff Spicoli Radomsky, and Andrew MacCannell. This was SLC's 'First Contact' with the outside world of Downhill Skateboarding.

Racers were doing what they could to be more aero, like wearing only underwear to be faster. This idea was totally unthought of to the SLUT locals.

There was four heats of six racers with two rounds of elimination before the sun started setting behind the mountain's darkening the canyon's race course. The final heat was composed of the 12 remaining racers that had yet to be disqualified. Based on the racers finishing positions in their first two heats, two starting lines were formed with the highest placed racers up front.

Surrounded by names and faces only heard of on YouTube, SLUT skaters had never been any more excited to be out skating. This became a real downhill skateboarding race.

1st: Brent 'Dubes' Dubendorff. 2nd: Brandon Bean. 3rd: SLUT Micah Green. 4th: Andrew MacCanell. 5th: Bryce Brady.

FACT: The 1st place trophy, a miniature plunger won by Dubes, was then taken to California and further used by the world famous skaters of SkateHouseMedia.com

2011 SkatesGiving Race

The race was a mini-series down multiple courses with a unique point system to determine the winners upon finishing. There was three different racecourses and although they were short, each course featured a mini-kicker ramp to add to the level of technicality. Racers earned points depending on their placement in their heats, and were given an extra point if they successfully executed the kicker ramp.

Starting board-less on the line facing uphill, racers would have to run to grab their decks where they would then turn and finish kicking back to the designated starting line. There was not an unlimited push, so that meant by the time you got back to the starting line you had to be riding gravity. This would cause for some pretty heavy pile-ups down most the courses where riders faced a quick right 180-degree hairpin on the narrow paved trailways.
